Cheating Time & Peeking Ahead

Ever wish you could go back in time and do something a little differently? Kind of like Jeff Winston in Replay?

I just cheated time by twelve hours with this post. Isn’t technology wonderful?

So here we are on Tuesday, er, I mean Monday, and I’m working day and night on my day-job project. I find myself thinking about writing at night when I’m in bed, but not about my WIP. I’m brainstorming on TW, my code name for the next project I want to work on. I’m still going to finish IA, my WIP, after this work project, but TW is very attractive for several reasons:

  • It’s new.
  • It’s more original.
  • It involves world creation on a much larger scale than anything I’ve ever done before.
  • It crosses genres in a good way, lending itself to (urban) fantasy and science fiction.

It’s going to be interesting to use all the outlining craft I’ve been learning on a project from scratch next time around.

Juggling Universes

So here I am, working to finish my second draft outline, when I get a great idea for a completely different novel. I’m doing my best to focus focus focus on finishing my first novel, but I can’t help but brainstorm ideas for the second one. It’s a definite juggling act not to lose momentum on novel one and get carried away on novel two.

I wonder what other authors do when they are working on more than one book at a time?
